How I Work With You
I place great emphasis on understanding each person for who they are their particular formative life experiences and valuing each individual without trying to pathologize how they have come to be as they are.
Gestalt therapy is a holistic, experiential and relational way of working with individuals. From a Gestalt counselling perspective, a well-lived life is founded on a person's awareness of how they live their life and how they manage their relationships. Below is a description of how we will work together to develop your self-awareness and change.
In the work we will do I'll encourage you to develop your capacity to create your own support both from within your self and from the environment and I'll ask you to become more aware of what you do and how you behave.
Together we will build a relationship of trust and understanding and in this way explore how you are living your life, how you are in your relationships and what choices you are making.
Gestalt therapy facilitates self-awareness and this can in turn help you make more positive choices in your life. In this way you will develop a relationship with yourself that is based on love, care, support and self-respect.
In our sessions, I support you to become aware of the negative and destructive patterns that you may be continually repeating. This awareness will help you to see the power you really do have to create different experiences in your life. From here you can start to create new patterns that are supportive, loving and functional.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is known to be effective in helping people overcome difficulties they may be experiencing. These problems can include relationship and intimacy issues, as well as anxiety and depression. It is designed to give you a sense of control by helping you unleash the power of your mind. It's based on the fact that often your thoughts create your reality. So if you're in the habit of thinking negative or self-destructive thoughts chances are your life or reality will reflect those thoughts. I use CBT to help you reframe the negative and self-destructive, and help you create a more positive and hopeful life.
